AGREEMENTS OF CARE ON THE DANCE FLOOR

“ The beauty of nature insists on taking its time. Everything is prepared. Nothing is rushed. The rhythm of emergence is a gradual slow beat always inching its way forward; change remains faithful to itself until the new unfolds in the full confidence of true arrival.” John O’Donohue

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

We value personal boundaries and maintain awareness of surrounding bodies and physical fixed objects to ensure safety and mutual respect.

Non-verbal Communication

We maintain the magic and integrity of a non-verbal practice. While spontaneous sound that is connected to the depths of the body and breath are welcome, the movement floor is not a place for verbal conversations or disruptive vocalizations. This allows for deeper connection through movement and expression.

Expressed Consent

We honor consent before engaging in interaction with fellow dancers, while allowing everyone to navigate their own relationship with the dance with another. This ethos is upheld through clear body language and mutual understanding. When uncertain, verbal confirmation of consent is important. If you need to verbalize a “no” when someone is not responsive to your body language and communication in the dance, please practice kindness and clarity. If you receive a “no” whether verbal or physical, respect the person and find your own dance through it. We emphatically respect each individual's choice to engage, connect, or dance solo, even when invited by the facilitator to so .

Know Thyself

We rely on your own self-reliance and taking your own measure. Any facilitated guidance serves as an invitation to explore your own embodiment throughout the dance. You have the agency to follow those inquiries and listen to your own process. We also trust that you will seek your needs of support; asking for your needs invites reciprocity.

Personal Tech Holiday

We store devices away to preserve focus and the potency of the space. Capturing photos and videos during sessions is prohibited. Silence and put any wearables into Do Not Disturb mode. Do not use music identification apps throughout the dance. If there is a track that you’re interested in, just ask, we love connecting you with the musicians that move us - they need our support!

Ground Your Feet

You may join the dance with bare feet or non-marking dancer shoes that have not been worn off the dance floor. This is a practice that relies on feet on the floor, it is not a space to practice Contact Improv.

Wellness Priority

We prioritize the health and well-being of our community. Please avoid attending dance sessions if you are unwell and potentially contagious, to prevent the spread of illness. Respect any person’s decision to wear a mask.

Natural Presence

Arrive in a natural state of being. Refrain from the influence of alcohol or drugs and please don't wear strong fragrances to dance sessions. Strong fragrances can trigger allergies and prevent some from participating and generally distract from the presence intended.

Conscious Confidentiality

We honor the trust and vulnerability of fellow dancers by maintaining discretion regarding personal shares and experiences within the dance space. Lessons learned may be carried forward, but identities and specific details shared within the circle remain confidential.
